The retreat will begin in the capitol city, Accra. Participants will spend the first few days of the journey exploring Accra, the capitol city of Ghana. While in Accra, Participants will visit sites such as the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial, Arts Center, Mallata Market and more! By day four, participants will arrive in Cape Coast, where they will visit El Mina & Cape Coast Castles. Forever haunted by the ghosts of the past, the Cape Coast is one of the most culturally significant spots in Africa. This former European colonial capital, named Cabo Corso by the Portuguese, was once the largest slave-trading centre in West Africa. Coveted by its European colonizers for its abundance of gold by, Cape Coast is also known for being the last stop for Africans who were taken into slavery by European colonizers to the Americas. For this reason, this experience is much more than a Yoga Retreat. It is an opportunity to bring a spirit of healing and reconciliation to the place where Africans were forced to leave their homeland for a new and unknown world.
On day seven participants will head to the city of Kumasi, located in the Ashanti Region of the country. In Kumasi, participants will learn about the ancient Ashanti Kingdom by visiting Manhyia Palace and Cultural Centre, in addition to lodging for a night on the beautiful Lake Bosomtwi. In a village right outside of Kumasi, you will visit Assin Manso Slave Market and the slave bath stream. Finally, we will end our journey back in Accra. There we will be staying at The Healing Earth Temple! where we will enjoy learning how to prepare local dishes, bon fires, more drumming, dancing and traditional songs!
